Gordes is a commune in the Luberon area in the Vaucluse department. It ranging in altitude from 115 m to 635 m above sea level. Gordes is a great address of the Luberon area. The territory of Gordes is part on "les Monts de Vaucluse", a group of mountains and hills, part in the valley of the Calavon (a local river) also called the "Luberon Valley".
The name of the place comes from the celtic tribe of the "Vordense". Vordense transforms in Gordenses then Gordae/Gordone and finally Gordes. Occupation by the Roman empire.
